Chairperson’s Report
During the past year 3 of our elected committee have had to resign due to other commitments, Ann Lawton,
David Robinson and Joyce Davison. I would therefore like to present our 2 new members, David Wardell and
Roger Jay. It was decided to keep the committee at this time to nine as in the constitution, 5 officers and 4
members
I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all the committee for their hard work during this year, without them
we would never have been able to achieve all that we have. My special thanks go to:
Lynn our Activities Secretary, she has organised all the live music and trips which takes up a great deal of her
time, plus run the bonus ball every month raising money for the club.
Vivian, the club Secretary, who has arranged our meetings and taken minutes, has organised the dates of our
events with Juan Carlos and Gines, sorted out the menus and told them if things were not to our liking, all this
using her Spanish which is becoming quite fluent, plus all those beautiful table decorations at our evening
events are designed and made by her (we do help but only under her tutoring).
Jane, our Treasurer who has not only worked hard keeping the accounts but has also run the Christmas Draw,
which had some wonderful prizes. I believe she is aiming to purchase a Tumble Dryer as first prize this year so
make sure you buy lots of tickets.
Dave, one of our new members, has organized the purchase of our PA system and CD player and become our
resident Bingo caller. He makes sure that the music continues after the entertainment has finished at our dinner
dances and ensures that my microphone is working during various events.
And last but not least my thanks to all non committee members who have given their time at various events to
help us, including Gerry who kindly did our audit with no adverse comments.
Over the last year we, have organised many events that have been a success, and as a new committee we have
made our mistakes, but we are learning all the time, and are always looking for ideas as to what the members
want. We now have a regular Tuesday night with Bingo, Games night, and the new edition Race Night. This
Year our Evening events are going to be limited to the few special occasions such as St. Georges, Summer Ball,
Barbeque & Disco in the Summer, Halloween and Christmas.
Our Outside events were Easter Sunday and the summer fete which were well attended and enjoyed by all; these
will be repeated this year, especially Easter Sunday for the Children. We have also organised Children’s Parties
for Halloween and Christmas at no cost for the children.
In April last year we were approached by Tom Tansey of
¿Qué Pasa? Who has been a great help in arrangingour trips which were a visit to a Spanish Theatre to see Queen “We will Rock you, The Romans at Cartagena
which had 2 full coaches and Benidorm for a long weekend which besides the Cold caught by most was a nice
break. We hope to have more trips during this year and Tom will be speaking later to give some idea’s.
The original idea was that the social club would be non profit making and the excess money would go back to
the members, but last year we were informed that when the Commercial Centre is built, we would have a social
room. With this in mind it was decided that all money made should go towards furnishing this room for the
members, and as soon as we hear anything we will call a general meeting to discuss any ideas.
We have also been acknowledged by Humo Meditteraneo as the MCC Social Club, Susan and Dolores attend
our committee meetings and we try to ensure that events or trips do not clash, they have also been very helpful
in translating our Calendar into German & Spanish.
